Baby Food Recipe – Chicken and Cream of Wheat

I made this recipe of mine a few times and my toddler seems to like it very much! So I thought I’d share.

It’s very easy to make.  All you need is one serving of cooked cream of wheat, quarter table spoon of butter and couple of ounces of cooked chicken pureed using food processor. I usually bake my chicken, but it can be boiled or broiled.  As long as it’s not too spicy or too salty.  In order for chicken to come out creamy I add an ounce or two of water to the food processor.

Once everything is cooked and chicken pureed, add all the ingredients together and you got yourself a meal or two for your baby or toddler!

Homemade baby food is cheaper than the store bought and it is more eco-friendly since there is no additional container involved!

Baby Food Recipe – Chicken and Mashed Potatoes

Today I experimented with a new dish for my toddler – chicken and mashed potatoes.  Came out pretty yummy.  In fact it’s so good, I could eat the whole thing myself!

I used couple of ounces of boiled chicken breast, two mid-size baked potatoes, half cup of whole milk and about quarter of a table spoon of butter.  I skinned the baked potatoes and cut them into smaller pieces.  I cut the chicken into smaller pieces as well.  Then I threw everything into the food processor and let it puree.  It came out a little on the thick side, but it will probably be okay.  If not, I can dilute it more with milk or water later.

Homemade baby food is actually more eco-friendly than the store bought one.  Why?  Because it doesn’t involve a glass jar or a plastic container that baby food normally comes in.  These usually end up in the garbage right?  So by avoiding store-bought, you create less garbage!

Mommy’s Exercise Helper

My neighbor sold me this neat running stroller.  I couldn’t refuse, he was only asking $30 for it.  I tell you what, even if I had to buy it brand new at the store, I would have!  The brand new ones go for $110-$130.  It is a neat way to couple my exercise and my toddler’s outside time!  She enjoys taking rides in it and I am happy that I can get a decent work out close to home.

How I Decorated My Nursery Cheaply

It seems like we would do anything for our little miracles that we are about to bring into this world. Baby paraphernalia that people used to do fine without (and still do in most of the world) is now considered to be a necessity. Hats off to the baby industry marketers!  They know exactly how to get into the wallets of the emotional, hormone-filled expectant mothers and the nervous and excited fathers-to-be.  New parents can easily blow thousands of dollars on baby items, anything from designer bibs and cute little socks to dressers, cribs and changing tables.

When it comes down to the core of it all, do babies really care whether they are wearing a new Disney onsie or the one that was worn by their older cousins? Do they care whether the crib they are sleeping in, cost you an arm and a leg at Babies’r'Us, or if you bought it at a garage sale for a fraction of the cost. You know the answer, babies don’t care! As long as the baby industry has you convinced that you “need”, “can’t live without” everything that they are so successfully pushing on you, they will stay very successful.

I guess the difference between me and many other parents is that I draw a more defined line between “want” and “need”, “necessary” and “optional”. So anyways, here is the story of how I decorated my nursery.
